I stepped on it and the pipe turned to red shards.<br /><br />Being as this is Montserrat, I saw the plumber on the road - stopped him and asked him to fix it ASAP. This is most convenient because he's been begging me for work.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386585041687826630.post-47052018535994589222008-03-17T07:30:00.000-07:002008-12-10T13:56:34.233-08:00rescued artifact<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NjNaVK75Wp8/R96IcfL0AzI/AAAAAAAAATY/6HtcYqdrpmU/s1600-h/CIMG2363.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_NjNaVK75Wp8/R96IcfL0AzI/AAAAAAAAATY/6HtcYqdrpmU/s400/CIMG2363.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178726644511408946" border="0" /></a><br /><a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NjNaVK75Wp8/R96E9PL0AxI/AAAAAAAAATI/zgnj5GKkGVI/s1600-h/CIMG2619.JPG"><img style="margin: 0px auto 10px; display: block; text-align: center; cursor: pointer;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_NjNaVK75Wp8/R96E9PL0AxI/AAAAAAAAATI/zgnj5GKkGVI/s400/CIMG2619.JPG" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5178722809105613586" border="0" /></a><br />When I (finally) opened the garage I found the following - a tiny car and a barbeque. Whilst I haven't tried to get the car started (yet) the barbi is firing up nicely, and has made several steaks, burgers and most recently roasted fish when we had friends over for St Patrick's Day weekend.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386585041687826630.post-45028467247772289812008-03-07T16:38:00.000-08:002008-03-07T16:45:16.752-08:00This post is a formal response to Carmen who posted a comment in regards to construction methods used on the island and typical in the Caribbean.<br /><br />The house like many in the region is structured using reinforced concrete block work. This is typically made of 8" external blocks reinforced by 1/4" to 1/2" steel bars placed in every other pocket that are then filled with a mixture of cement, sand and aggregate. A grid work of columns are also utilised at a spacing of 12' to 15' to create a rigid structure. The structural basis of most buildings (residential or commercial) is laid out in the Caribbean Uniform Building Code (CUBiC), notwithstanding Montserrat does not have a ratified building code.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386585041687826630.post-8192265264447012372008-03-06T21:31:00.001-08:002008-03-06T21:31:45.117-08:00sea side elevation<style type="text/css">.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #008000; }.flickr-photo { width: 400px; }.flickr-yourcomment { }.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }</style><div class="flickr-frame"> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/architechnophilia/2086763667/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2381/2086763667_9c3f85228e.jpg" class="flickr-photo" alt="" /></a><br /> <span class="flickr-caption"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/architechnophilia/2086763667/">CIMG1966</a>, originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/architechnophilia/">architechnophilia</a>.</span></div> <p class="flickr-yourcomment"> house and garden at date of purchase</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386585041687826630.post-684658125875332092008-03-06T21:30:00.001-08:002008-03-06T21:30:30.390-08:00elevation<style type="text/css">.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #008000; }.flickr-photo { width: 400px; }.flickr-yourcomment { }.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }</style><div class="flickr-frame"> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/architechnophilia/2259168158/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2354/2259168158_e59720b933.jpg" class="flickr-photo" alt="" /></a><br /> <span class="flickr-caption"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/architechnophilia/2259168158/">elevation</a>, originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/architechnophilia/">architechnophilia</a>.</span></div> <p class="flickr-yourcomment"> initial sketches for the sea facing elevation</p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5386585041687826630.post-34157181670067160972008-03-06T21:21:00.001-08:002008-03-06T21:21:58.403-08:00measured survey<style type="text/css">.flickr-photo { border: solid 2px #008000; }.flickr-photo { width: 400px; }.flickr-yourcomment { }.flickr-frame { text-align: left; padding: 3px; }.flickr-caption { font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px; }</style><div class="flickr-frame"> <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/architechnophilia/2300118761/" title="photo sharing"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2274/2300118761_b231cc0545.jpg" class="flickr-photo" alt="" /></a><br /> <span class="flickr-caption"><a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/architechnophilia/2300118761/">measured survey</a>, originally uploaded by <a href="http://www.flickr.com/people/architechnophilia/">architechnophilia</a>.</span></div> <p class="flickr-yourcomment"> this was the house as I purchased it.
